Modern Warfare 3 Infused With Talents Of Sledgehammer, Raven?

by Adam Biessener on Jan 20, 2011 at 10:27 AM

The unconfirmed word about Modern Warfare 3 is that the remnants of Infinity Ward are getting by with a little help from their sister studios.

The L.A. Times is reporting that fellow Activision-owned developers Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software are knee deep in the next Call of Duty game alongside IW. The report cites "people with knowledge of situation [sic]" as saying that Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward are working together on the single-player portion of the game, with Raven handling online play.

Raise your hand if you're surprised that a studio that lost a huge portion of its talent couldn't stick to the corporate-mandated two-year production schedule on a game with a budget that likely goes into nine figures.

On the one hand, the whole Infinity Ward situation makes us sad. On the other, Raven has an excellent track record and Sledgehammer includes big-name creative talent (Dead Space lead Glen Schofield, for one) as well, though that studio has yet to release a game.

The constant protests from Activision that Infinity Ward was going about business as usual in the wake of so many high-profile departures (see video below) were always good for a laugh. Too bad we didn't even get that this time, as Activision came back with a standard no-comment statement in response to the rumor.

This is still unconfirmed, of course, but it easily passes the smell test.
