LittleBigPlanet 2 Breaks Five World Records

by Annette Gonzalez on Jan 20, 2011 at 10:25 AM

Update: Beginning this past Monday, Sony hosted a three-day event as part of the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2 with the goal of setting five Guinness World Records. Well, they did it.

The five goals set for the event (see original story below) were accomplished by three gamers who spearheaded the record setting: David Dino, Sean Crowley, and Lauren Giuliano. It's a shame our work here at GI didn't qualify for a record: "Most Sackboy's Torched By A Flaming Wheel Of Death."

Original story: As part of LittleBigPlanet 2's launch, Sony is joining forces with Guinness World Records next week to set five new records over the course of three days beginning on January 17th. LBP fans will take shelter at the PlayStation Lounge in NYC's Sony Style store to make the magic happen.

Here are the goals set for the event:

  • Longest marathon playing LittleBigPlanet 2
  • Longest marathon playing a platform video game
  • Most video game genres played in one video game in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in 24 hours
  • Most user-generated video game levels played in a marathon

LittleBigPlanet 2 will also get some love for the following records:

  • Most gaming genres in one video game
  • Most player-created levels in one video game

Sony will live stream the happenings on the PlayStation.Blog. The record event will be hosted by Veronica Belmont and Jeff Rubenstein, and there will be interviews with fans and with dev team Media Molecule. Fans can suggest games to play next and send in questions.

The event also celebrates the release of Guinness World Records 2011 Gamer's Edition that features Sackboy on the cover. The book will be available on January 20 for $14.99.
