Square has unveiled the latest installment in the Final Fantasy series, which happens to be a sequel for Final Fantasy XIII. The game was revealed on the official PlayStation Blog, with a handful of details.
The game will star Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII and will feature an “evolved” battle system. Even better, it will include – get ready for it – a new story! The game is set for a release sometime next winter on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Maybe I was being a bit charitable when I said “a handful,” unless you have infant-sized mitts.
This is a strategy we’ve seen before, with Final Fantasy X spawning Final Fantasy X-2 back in 2003. Let’s hope XIII-2 has more of a focus on expanding its predecessor’s excellent combat system rather than playing dress up.
