Behind The Scenes Of Skyrim

On our recent visit to Bethesda Game Studios, Todd Howard (Skyrim's director) was kind enough to give us a full tour of their new office. The team is hard at work creating Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but there are still plenty of fun distractions within these hallowed halls, along with a number of glimpses at the new game.  From behind-the-scenes design concepts to a map of Skyrim, there are lots of exciting details to pore over.

Check out the video at the bottom of this page to get your full access pass to the development studio that is creating this landmark new role-playing adventure. And for all our Skyrim coverage throughout this month, dig into our game hub, linked from the image below.

  • I like their studio. Nice and bright, well lit, modern and not full of clutter. And a fitness center! And a chef! This place is practically a vault!

    I'd love to work there...

  • THat is just amazing! Although, I wish not to play TES V right now, cause I have no PC to run it. So please come out on 11.11.11, perhaps than I will have a PC to normally run it. Consoles are not my taste!

  • Mod

So Bob Ross is gonna be in Skyrim? This is gonna be sweet!

  • I got to tour there this summer! It was awesome and the food was delicious. But I wasn't allowed to see, well really anything they were working on. It was still a great experience. I even got to meet and talk to Todd Howard! He is such a cool and nice guy in person.

  • Wow... Bethesda has an excellent studio.  Work, Eat, and Exercise all at the same place.

GI, this video puts your office space to shame.  How long do you think it'll take for the GI Office to look like this?

  • Did anybody else find themselves pausing the video to read all the concepts they had on the board? thats how much i wanna know about TES V haha..

  • This is so interesting. I love these kind of videos. I wonder what games they play in the lounge and screening room. And what was that thing about Valve at 2:00?

  • I know that no matter what it is still a job, but working in the game industry looks really awesome.

  • Looking forward to the 100+ hours I'll be spending in Skyrim...

  • Omg I wish I worked there, You could fricking live there! =)

  • Azura at 1:19?

  • Todd is a PIMP, and the studio is epic.

  • Curse you for playing Oblivion's score in the background. CURSE YOU!!

  • Awesome studio, but the thing that tops it is the chef.

  • I want to work there so bad! Also, keep up the good work Ben

  • @stiefjac

I did the same thing. I stopped the video a couples times to examine the map (now I can name 4 of the massive cities). I think there will be a huge gorge at the south west, i see it like in TLOTR 2. I read everything on the board, watched every drawings on the wall. Analysed the game menu that looks like Fallout a lot. I even tried to see what was on the screen the level designer was working at. Thats how much i want to know about the game.

  • Man, I want to be a video game designer! Too bad they don't get much of a personal life, they're always working. =(

  • After reading most of the article in the magazine, watching this video, and picking apart other information, I keep coming back to [edit: three] things:

    (1) They created a new dragon language, and the article mentions uttering "words of power." (I hope GI doesn't get mad at me for saying that, but it's all over the web.)

    (2) Repeated reference to "how the weapons feel."

    (3) Todd Howard talking about motion capture in regard to the MMA guys training in the basement.

Call me crazy, but... optional, limited Kinect integration?
  • Now that seems like a place that would be great to work at.

  • So cool to see the inside of a development studio.  Nice work, GI.
