THQ Capping Homefront For Secondhand Buyers

by Jeff Marchiafava on Jan 06, 2011 at 10:20 AM

Over the past couple of years game companies have come up with some interesting schemes to persuade gamers to buy their games new. THQ is the latest to jump on the bandwagon. The publisher has announced that its upcoming FPS, Homefront, will feature a multiplayer cap for players who buy their games secondhand.

Shacknews is reporting that Homefront will ship with a THQ Online Pass, a one time code that will unlock Homefront's full multiplayer experience. Players who don't have the code (i.e. those who rent the game or buy it secondhand) can still play all of the multiplayer modes and maps, but will have their level capped at 5 -- out of a possible 75 levels. Players can purchase the online pass separately for $10.
