Ubisoft Scales Back Always-On DRM

by Annette Gonzalez on Jan 05, 2011 at 12:45 PM

Ubisoft is pretty well known for its fight against piracy with controversial measures such as requiring players with PC titles to maintain an "always on" internet connection in order for games to play (even in single-player). If connection was lost during gameplay, the gameplay was interrupted as well -- bad news for people with unreliable internet. But that's about to change.

PC Gamer reports that the requirement is being removed on titles such as Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Sounds like PC gamers will still need an internet connection for the install, but it won't be required for gameplay.
