Microsoft Denies Kinect-RRoD Link

Could Kinect be causing older Xbox 360s to red ring? The BBC says maybe, while Microsoft firmly denies the allegations.

The BBC is reporting that an influx of British gamers have suffered from Microsoft's infamous Red Ring of Death error shortly after installing and using Kinect on older Xbox 360s. "We plugged it in the day we got it but only played it a few times before we got the red lights," says Adam Winnifrith, a 10-year old  who called into the BBC's "Radio 4's You and Yours" program. "The next day when we tried it again we still had the red rings of death and haven't been able to use it since."

The article also quotes several users on online forums complaining of similar problems, but Microsoft flatly denies their woes are being caused by Kinect.

"[Kinect is] designed to work with every Xbox 360 sold to date," Microsoft told the BBC. "There is no correlation between the three flashing red lights error and Kinect. Any new instances of the three flashing red lights error are merely coincidental."

Considering how many of the original Xbox 360s Microsoft sold and how often they break down, it's entirely possible that the victims' Kinect usage is a mere coincidence. I'm sure there have been a number of people who had their 360 red ring while eating a ham sandwich, but that doesn't mean it was the ham sandwich that bricked their console. Unless it was the ham sandwich... We're on to you now, ham sandwich...
