Nintendo's DS Claims Best-Selling System In U.S. Of All Time Title

by Jeff Cork on Jan 04, 2011 at 03:13 AM

Nintendo finished up 2010 with a pair of significant milestones. First, the company says that it's sold more than 47 million units of the Nintendo DS, making the platform--which includes the DS, DS Lite, DSi, and DSi XL--the best-selling system in U.S. history. In addition to that, the Wii is now the first system to sell more than 7 million units in three consecutive calendar years. That one's a bit more esoteric, but no less impressive.

“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”

Nintendo is poised to release its 3DS system in March, which will allow players to experience 3D gaming without requiring additional glasses.
