Microsoft Announcing Avatar Kinect At CES?

by Phil Kollar on Jan 04, 2011 at 05:50 AM

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is set to kick off tomorrow in Las Vegas, but we may already know one of the biggest gaming-related announcements planned for the event. According to some leaked photos, Microsoft will be revealing something called "Avatar Kinect."

Tech and gaming site Glimpse Dog posted the image above as well as one other shot from a walkthrough of the CES show floor. No details are known about what Avatar Kinect actually is yet, although from the couple of pictures, it looks likely to be some way for users to control their avatars via Kinect and interact with friends' avatars -- think something along the lines of Nintendo's Mii Channel but with more social interaction.

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will presenting a CES keynote tomorrow evening, so watch for official confirmation of Avatar Kinect coming out of that.
