Firemint Acquires Fellow Aussie Studio Infinite Interactive

by Jeff Cork on Jan 04, 2011 at 04:13 AM

You might not know the names Firemint or Infinite Interactive, but you're probably familiar with one of the games released by the Australian studios. Firemint, the team behind iPhone smashes Flight Control and Real Racing, has announced that it's acquired Infinite Interactive, the studio behind Warlords and the Puzzle Quest series.

Firemint founder Rob Murray and Infinite Interactive's founder Steve Fawkner met in 2003. "Steve and I have been talking about working together for a long time, and I remember him showing me an early version of Puzzle Quest," recalls Murray. "This inspired me to make a game during my own holidays two years later, which was Flight Control - and now, another two years later, we've finally found a way to work together!"

Fawkner will work in product management at Firemint, while continuing to work with his current team on a game that's already being developed. "Firemint has had huge success designing, developing and publishing great original games," he says. "By joining forces, we now have a way to further develop some of the exciting new concepts we've been working on. This new position really frees me up to focus on game design and I can't wait to get stuck into it!"

Melbourne-based Firemint now employs 60 people, and works on platforms including DSiWare, PSN, and Steam.
