The Most-Anticipated PS3 Games Of 2011

by Matthew Kato on Dec 27, 2010 at 07:00 AM

Since releasing in the shadow of the Xbox 360, Sony's PS3 has increased its installed base and gotten stronger every year. Whether it's third-party software or a strong-looking slate of first-party games, 2011 looks to be a good year for the system. Here's a look at just some of the most-anticipated titles confirmed to come out for the platform in the coming year.

Mass Effect 2 (Jan.18)
PS3 fans can finally get their hands on the game that everyone has been raving about, as well as all the previously released DLC and an interactive comic detailing the first game.

LittleBigPlanet 2 (Jan.18)
Unprecedented creation options are at your fingertips for the return of Sackboy, including the ability to make full-on games in different genres. Look for our review in the upcoming January issue of Game Informer (#214).

Dead Space 2 (Jan. 25)
Multiplayer and all new scares mark Isaac Clarke's continuing fight against the Necromorphs. The limited edition copy of the game also includes a Move-compatible version of the former Wii exclusive, Dead Space: Extraction.

BulletStorm (Feb. 22)
We've been killing people in video games for years, but you haven't seen anything like the carnage in BulletStorm.

Killzone 3 (Feb. 22)
Killzone 3 was one of Sony's highlights at 2010's E3, and you'll finally be able to get your hands on this gorgeous-looking FPS. Improvements to multiplayer, Move and 3D support, jetpacks, and more mark the continuing fight between the Helghast and ISA.

Dragon Age II (March 8)
This sequel features a new protagonist, Hawke, whose story is told in isolated episodes that span an entire decade as influenced by your choices in Dragon Age: Origins and Awakening.

Crysis 2 (March 22)
Take the all-powerfull Nanosuit 2.0 through a tour of a besieged New York City in Crytek's FPS.

Continue on for more great PS3 games in 2011

Portal 2 (April 20)
Portal's GLaDOS was voted the best character of the past decade, and we can't wait to spar with her again in this FPS puzzler that introduces new gameplay elements and co-op play to test our mental meddle.

Mortal Kombat (spring)
The simple name says it all. Ed Boon and his team are bringing the series back to its roots, which means it has all the gore and Fatalities your stomach can handle. And for all you PS3 fans, you'll be happy to hear that Kratos is in the game.

Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection (spring)
If you weren't in on the ground floor for these two cult classics when they first came out for the PS2, this is a great opportunity to see what everyone has been raving about. Both games have been remastered in HD and will feature 3D and Trophy support.

L.A. Noire (spring)
L.A. Noire's investigation-based gameplay makes this more than just another Rockstar open world title, but this game appears to sacrifice none of Rockstar's attention to detail and ambition.

Resistance 3 (Aug.6)
The game takes place four years after Resistance 2, and follows the tribulations of new protagonist Joseph Capelli.

Batman: Arkham City (fall)
Hugo Strange knows that Bruce Wayne is Batman, and that's just the beginning of what this game has in store. Gotham's criminals have been isolated in the criminal haven/prison that is Arkham City, and super-villains like Two-Face are carving out their space by any means necessary.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (November 11)
By its title alone, it's obvious that this new adventure explores the scrolls' prophecy regarding Cyrodiil's northern neighbor Skyrim and the return of the dragons. Plenty of streaming fire and RPG action is sure to ensue.

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception (November 1)
Uncharted 3 takes Nathan Drake and Sully to the Arabian Desert in search of a lost city dubbed "Atlantis of the Sands." This new adventure includes hand-to-hand combat with multiple opponents and other new melee attacks.

The Last Guardian (holiday)
Fumito Ueda and the team at Team Ico return with this enigmatic tale of a boy and a beast we know as the Trico. Like Shadow of the Colossus and ICO before it, The Last Guardian will explore the relationship between the two couched in Team Ico's signature style.

Mass Effect 3 (holiday)
PS3 owners can now get in on the action day-and-date, and it'll make a nice bookend to the year with Mass Effect 2 in January.
