Holiday Warrior 12/24/10

by Annette Gonzalez on Dec 24, 2010 at 01:00 PM

It's the night before Christmas so what better time to talk games! If you need a quick break from all the holiday cheer taking place on this very night, stop by the comments section and tell the world what you're playing this weekend. Happy holidays!

Reiner: Minnesota has been pounded with snow over the last two weeks. As much as I hate shoveling the driveway, I've turned this tedious task into an art project. Rather than just throwing the snow off to the side like sane people do, I'm dumping it all onto the same spot to create Mt. Reiner. It stands over 10 feet in height. If you drive past a house with a huge pile of snow in the front yard with a Yoda figure on top of it, you've found my house. Outside of this project, I'll be playing as much StarCraft II and GoldenEye 007 as I can.

Bertz: Most of my Xmas break will be spent in the jungles of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam. I've also got to wrap up Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines and Fable III.

Kato: After a belated download for no apparent reason, I'm going to finish Mass Effect 2's Lair of the Shadow Broker. If I have to kill the Shadow Broker just to get some personal time with Liara, then so be it. I haven't gotten any of the other Mass Effect 2 DLC, so depending on how Shadow Broker ends (and whether I have a hankerin' for more ME 2) will likely determine if I get the other DLC.

Joe: This week I'm hoping to really dig into Fable III. I've played a few hours, but all of the seemingly random simplifications from the second entry (which I loved) put me off. I want to see everything the game has to offer in hopes that it can win me back.

Dan: I'm back in Kansas City for Christmas so my goal is to finally get every K-O-N-G letter in Donkey Kong Country Returns with my sisters. Over Thanksgiving we grabbed all of them up through World 7, and now we're gonna get the rest and explore the golden temple. Outside of that, I'm probably gonna scar my sister for life by having her play Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

Annette: I'm finally getting my very own Kinect for Christmas so I won't have to hijack the one from the office anymore. There will be plenty of Dance Central to go around.

Jeff M: Over Christmas break I'm going to be playing a host of new games including ModNation Racers, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Heavy Rain, and Dead Rising 2. How can I be so confident that I will be getting these games for Christmas? I bought them with my employee discount and gave them to my family to give back to me. It might not make for much of a surprise, but at least I know I'll get what I want!

Tim: Hoo boy, let me tell you about my ambitious holiday gaming plan. I aim to finish Deadly Premonition, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Donkey Kong Country 3, and continue playing Black Ops. I want to get a new computer and play WoW, Amnesia, and Minecraft. I also want to complete one of the Ratchet & Clank games I borrowed from Phil (like last year). I also want to catch up on great downloadable games and finally pick back up Valkyria Chronicles II (how many times have I written that?) Finally, I want to get a lot of retro gaming done. I want to replay some Genesis classics and beat Castlevania III!

Meagan: I've set a lofty goal for my break. I'd like to power through Red Dead Redemption, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, and Fable III in a little over a week and a half. We'll see if I'm up to it. If I have time, I've also been itching to play Amnesia, Enslaved, and get in more Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Who needs to sleep?!?

Phil: I'm expecting Kinect as my Christmas present from the family, so I'll spend a good chunk of the holiday weekend checking that out on my sister's 360. I'm also planning to bring a DS with me to get in a bit of hardcore gaming -- I've been grinding for final bosses and bonus dungeons in both Golden Sun and Dragon Quest IX, so this will be a good time to blow through what's left of those with some healthily overpowered characters. If I'm lucky, I'll also find some time to finally wrap up Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which has been waiting for me to finish for far too long.

Ben Hanson: I'm going to have a music-filled break as I plan on experiencing DJ Hero 2 for the first time while I continue to thoroughly enjoy Rock Band for the iPhone. The latter takes me back to the sweet and innocent days of pouring dozens of hours in to Frequency on the PS2. I have also made it my Christmas mission to have my family enjoy a video game, I'm planning a surprise attack on Christmas day and will be setting up Beatles: Rock Band in the TV room.  My parents have never pressed a button in their lives, but it is impossible to resist singing along to "Twist and Shout"... right? I've also recently fallen in love with Bejeweled 3, I'm proud of myself for avoiding the epidemic as long as I have but am planning on some quality time with PopCap and podcasts over the break. I hope to also play through Heavy Rain, we will see how it goes.

Sean: Christmas in North Carolina!  Spending all of my time with family and enjoying the excitement of Christmas morning you can only get from having or being a child.  My kids are 5 and 2, prime ages for Santa’s show. I’m bringing the Kinect with me, so I’m fully expecting to get schooled by my grandmother in bowling again.  I’m also bringing Mass Effect, as I have no idea why I ever stopped playing this series. Pinball FX2, and Shadow Complex are on the harddrive, too.

That's it for us! What are you playing over the holiday?
