Final Fantasy VII Rap Explains Why Nerds Love Aeris

by Phil Kollar on Dec 21, 2010 at 02:10 PM

Whatever my personal feelings about Final Fantasy VI being a clearly superior game, FF VII is frequently pointed to as the most popular entry in Square Enix's successful RPG franchise. There are likely many reasons why so many gamers have such fond memories of this PS1 classic, but one of them is the story of Aeris (or, as those in the know call her, Aerith), a girl who sells flowers in the slums of Midgar and ends up being more than she seems. Now this unforgettable character has been immortalized in a genuinely awesome rap song.

The track, titled simply "Aerith," was created by Random (a.k.a. Mega Ran), a great hip-hop artist who I actually had the pleasure of meeting at E3 this year. Video games are a pretty consistent inspiration for and subject in his music, so I highly recommend checking him out.

You can hear "Aerith" below. If you like it, a full album of FF VIII inspired songs by Random will arriving January 31, 2011. In the mean time, you can purchase this track (as well as other music by him) on his Bandcamp page.
