Final Fantasy VII Rap Explains Why Nerds Love Aeris

Whatever my personal feelings about Final Fantasy VI being a clearly superior game, FF VII is frequently pointed to as the most popular entry in Square Enix's successful RPG franchise. There are likely many reasons why so many gamers have such fond memories of this PS1 classic, but one of them is the story of Aeris (or, as those in the know call her, Aerith), a girl who sells flowers in the slums of Midgar and ends up being more than she seems. Now this unforgettable character has been immortalized in a genuinely awesome rap song.

The track, titled simply "Aerith," was created by Random (a.k.a. Mega Ran), a great hip-hop artist who I actually had the pleasure of meeting at E3 this year. Video games are a pretty consistent inspiration for and subject in his music, so I highly recommend checking him out.

You can hear "Aerith" below. If you like it, a full album of FF VIII inspired songs by Random will arriving January 31, 2011. In the mean time, you can purchase this track (as well as other music by him) on his Bandcamp page.

  • Was....was I the only one who laughed when she got stabbed? I hated that girl. She sucked in combat so I was happy to see her go.
  • Can someone explain to me why my video isn't showing up?

    Edit: Never mind!
  • I couldn't tell which one was Areith cause they all look like girls. :D
  • Is it Aeris or Aerith?
  • Wow this is actually epic... The beat is just ridiculous! (In a good way of course)

    Thx for sharing Phil
  • it's forever Aeris for me. btw Phil, just out of curiosity, what makes you think FF6 is better? I've played both, and I still find 7 better. @Roflcopter: Aeris was only weak physically. However, her magic is some of the best (if not THE best) in the game. if you ever play again, try moving her to the back row and stack her with magic. trust me, it makes her loss that much worse imo.
  • oh, and the song is awesome too.

  • aw... I love Aerith.....

  • Cool song! And yes, I have also played both FF6 and 7 and I still find 7 more enjoyable in every way Phil. But oh well, we all have our own tastes.

  • I never used Aerith. I was so happy when she died.

  • FF VIII is by far the superior game

  • makes me want to listen to "Avalanche" by Still Remains

  • Mmm, so good. Phil, you are right that 6 holds up better for many reasons but Aerith was a cutie. I always changed Tifa's name to "*** McGee"...
  • FFVII was famous because of its unique gameplay, not the story. So far, I've played twice and I didn't like Aeris. And then, I read many articles related to the scene when Aeris was stabbed by Sephiroth and how moved it was. But I felt nothing, twice I watched it to its ending > .
  • I loved this game, but I wont lie, out of all the characters it is absolutely 100% Red 13 for me. Just simply because out of all of them he is the smartest, and generally most bad ass. Plus he doesnt look like a girl.
  • The beat is really bad. The temple of the ancient's theme does not fit at all. Lyrics are ok.

  • I agree, Phil, FF6 is easily the best FF.

  • I lol'd wtf "body wasnt the greatest skin wasnt the fairest"

    XDDD

  • but you have to admit that a game that is over a decade old is still being talked about

  • Well done on the video. I wish I had a PS1/PS2 to play through the FF's. Always wanted too.
