Sony Gearing Up To Launch PlayStation App For iPhone, Android

by Annette Gonzalez on Dec 19, 2010 at 09:15 AM

Microsoft already has Xbox Live Anywhere implementing the popular online service into Windows Phone 7 to keep tabs on Live activity on the go, so it's no big surprise Sony is headed in the same direction. The company is planning to release the free Official PlayStation App for iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android.

According to PlayStation.Blog the Official PlayStation App will include the following features:

  • Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
  • Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PS3, PSP, PS2.
  • Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
  • Share your favorite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

You read that correctly. It will primarily hold announcements from the European PlayStation.Blog as the app is only scheduled to release in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, France, and the Netherlands. No word on whether or not the app will release in the U.S., but provided launch is a success, the app could very well come stateside. Sony has yet to announce when the Official PlayStation App will go live.
