Respawn's Jason West Says He Hasn't Played Black Ops

by Adam Biessener on Dec 16, 2010 at 05:16 AM

Respawn Entertainment co-founder (and former Infinity Ward CTO, and one of the big brains behind Call of Duty) Jason West begged off of commenting on Call of Duty: Black Ops when 1Up asked him about it at the Spike TV VGA red carpet, saying, "I, uh, haven't actually played it. It would be hard to say." We'll just bet you haven't, Mr. West.

West, of course, was recently messily terminated from his position at Infinity Ward by Activision along with co-founder Vince Zampella. While they were still employed there, the two regularly butted heads with Activision executives over farming out the franchise's development to other studios. Early builds of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare were internally marked "cod3.exe" at Infinity Ward, which should give an indication of the franchise's creators' opinions of non-Infinity Ward CoD titles.

West wouldn't crack and tell 1Up anything about Respawn's secret project. "We got some things cooking now, and I saw some awesome stuff last week," he told the website. "I think announcements are going to be a ways off."
