Elder Scrolls V Will Use New Engine

by Phil Kollar on Dec 12, 2010 at 08:30 AM

Last night's surprise announcement of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has left gamers around the Internet eagerly discussing and awaiting more info. While Bethesda doesn't appear ready to give us much news yet, they have revealed one tantalizing tidbit: The upcoming game will use a brand new engine.

This news comes courtesy of a tweet from Bethesda's official Twitter account. Bethesda has used the Gamebryo engine for the last two Elder Scrolls games as well as Fallout 3, so many fans assumed they would continue with that engine for Skyrim. According to the developer, though, it has a brand new engine that is "spectacular."

Hopefully more details will pop up soon, but in the mean time, Bethesda has also launched an official teaser site for Skyrim. So far the site just contains the trailer from last night, but we'll be watching it closely for any updates.
