Survey Says iPad Is The Most Desired Product For Kids

We’re not surprised to hear that kids want an iPad. Everyone wants an iPad. What does surprise us is that – according to a recent Nielson survey – children want an iPad more than they want a Nintendo DS, a TV, or a smart phone.

According to the survey, kids under the age of 13 find the iPad and iPod Touch to be the most desirable consumer electronic products on the market. At least 31 percent of children between the ages of 6 and 12 want an iPad, which is greater than the amount of respondents who desire a computer (only 29 percent), a PlayStation 3 (only 21 percent), or a Nintendo 3DS (only 20 percent).

We can’t blame them; iPads are pretty slick. What’s your most desired electronic product of the season?

  • *Sigh* Kids these days...
  • Please tell me that people aren't giving their 6 year olds iPads...
  • Mine?  A hard drive for my 360 slim.

  • I wouldn't care for an iPad, it's a large, overpriced iPod touch. For surfing the web and watching some videos, I'm sure its great, but I can't justify the price when I get enough portability from my thinkpad.

If I had one given to me I wouldn't complain.

All I want is for Madcatz to come out with their new wireless racing wheel so I can drive my Williams FW32 into the sunset with it.
  • seriously? i dont even see why it's so popular, its too big to be an ipod and doesnt have all the functions of a labtop. seems like apple could price anything at $600 and people will shell out for it

  • Who doesn't want an ipad? I remember the first time I held one, it was like... like... magic or something.
  • Parents with a tight budget, and the kids asking a freaking iPad.Where did Transformers or action figures went wrong ?
  • Kids these days. I want a Ps3,Xbox 360 and Wii.
  • That means theres gonna be some broke @ss parents this year..

  • I actually love my iPad, to be honest. But as I said earlier in a reply to this post, I am not under the age of 13 and I do use mine as a way of completing my college work. There also happen to be some pretty spiffy games I can buy in the App Store, as well.
  • What will they do with it?Thats the real question?I mean check their facebook?update their portfolios?I mean how much can a 10 year old get out of a ipad, other than the usual music and games and web surfing?

  • i dont see why, no desire for it at all (age 14)

  • My most wanted item is a GI coffee mug autographed by you guys. Can this happen?
  • I desire an iPod Touch, all my friends have it, yet I still have yet to get it..........
  • WRONG. im 13, and everyone my age i know wants a Mac or Xbox 360 Slim.
  • Maybe they want it cause they already have a DS, TV & a smart phone...
  • Well I'm using one right now, and it's beast

  • Who cares what impulse buyers like kids think? A bunch of these same kids will let this Ipad collect dust in 6 months.

  • Man how times have changed.  When I was that age, I asked for Castle Grayskull and was stoked to get Man-E-Faces or Orko.  Now that I think of it I still want Castle Grayskull, but that is probably because I already have an ipad.  My nine year old did ask for an ipad to play angry birds.  So I guess what the survey says rings true in this middle class household.

  • Little kids simply can't be trusted with an insanely expensive device. Yeah, and my most desired electronic product is totally a new Mac. Specifically the 12-Core Mac Pro...but it's $5,000 dollars!
