Nearly 20 Laid Off From Ubisoft Reflections

The Driver: San Francisco studio lost up to 19 jobs in a "reorganization" last Tuesday, according to an unnamed source speaking with UK publication Develop and later confirmed by Ubisoft.

Since being purchased by Ubisoft in 2006, the developer has released a few smaller titles while its flagship next-gen project suffers delay after delay.

"There have been delays with the project, and because of our delays, Ubisoft have had to change their plans for our studio. What that means exactly I’m not sure," Develop's source said. "This is the first game that we have done for the current generation of consoles. We are obviously learning as we go along, developing our skills. We haven’t had much support from external sources."

The Driver franchise has been troubled since 2004 debacle Driv3r, but Ubisoft says it intends to keep Reflections at the helm for the foreseeable future. "The brand is very important to us, and Reflections is crucial as a studio," the Ubisoft rep told Develop.

Our condolences, as always, to the newly unemployed.
