Digital Music Service Now On PSP

If you've recently downloaded the PSP's 6.35 update, you already have access to Sony's "cloud-based, digital music service."

In the recent software update, Sony added Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity under the music tab. It seems like the new music service isn't only limited to PSPs going forward. Here's a quote from the official website:

"The music you want, when you want it. Qriocity offers access to millions of songs on a variety of Sony devices. Upload your personal library for access anytime, anywhere or discover new favorites with automatic recommendations based on your unique listening habits."

Has anyone tinkered around with this yet? What are your impressions?

  • Is the music free or like iTunes?
  • haven't been on the psp in awhile but i'm gonna fire it up and check this right now!
  • Downloading patch now.
  • hmmm....my themes are still compatible but this music thing says "coming soon to learn about the music service visit qriocity.com from your pc".......SO......UPDATE: the website allows music and video to be streamed to Sony devices without late fees or subscriptions....it would be nice if the psp gets the video streaming too BUT we all know that isn't going to happen
    . maybe on the PSP2?
  • Funny how they've done nothing but let the PSP sink, yet they come out with something so ingenious that would have been a big boost...if they had supported the f@cking thing the whole time like they should have in the first place.
  • HEY!!!! I sent in a news tip last night about this exact same thing, AND provided the website! where's my credit?!?!? And I sent it in under the name BullToad, too

Oh, and i didn't start it, because the website says coming soon, but where are the video things?
  • Eh lame. Says coming soon.
  • Not sure how popular this'll be, but at least they're still supporting the device.
  • This is suppose to come to the PS3 too isn't it?
  • I've been looking around all over the site, and I can't find any kind of pricing information besides the statement of no subscription or late fees.
Obviously that makes one think it'll cost you for each video rented... but as I said, no idea how much that would cost.
As for the music service, no idea if it's gonna be free or subscription based.
  • Haven't tried this yet.But its not necesarry since I have a 2GB pent drive full of music.
  • I wish Sony would stop wasting money on the PSP and make that f@#kin phone already...
  • sweet my ipod's screen just broke last week too great timing
  • I love it on the go, it works well and sounds great!
  • is it free? and i cant as my psp is stuck on 6.20 since the battery compartment got jacked up ( says i need to charge battery before install but there isnt a battery in it) :(
  • It would so cool if they made an update that allows you to wath videos on the internet
  • Cool. But I'm not sure I'll ever use it on my psp. Perhaps on the psp2 :) Hopefully this will also come on the ps3. I might actually use it then...
  • For real? Bryan, You could have loaded it yourself and told us all it did was say "coming soon"........ Or was you secretly wanting us to get upset that the update was scant?
  • an impressive service but this would be cool for the ps3 and I want to play my own tracks while playing some multiplayer game..

  • Well, it would be a nice feature to use...  If the PSP didn't have such a freakin hideous network/internet interface.  Sure, when I'm sitting at home, I can hook up to my own private wi-fi, but that is a rare occasion - and I usually am more interested in using my PSP when traveling.  I've given up trying to get it connected on the road, the only time I can ever get a link is on a completely unprotected wi-fi network with no initial login screen necessary.  And, believe me, those are RARE for people who travel.  Can't even get connected in my hotel rooms 90% of the time.  So, maybe Sony could look at fixing the stuff that's been lame and broken since launch, if they want many of us to use their shiny new toys, that is.
