A Guided Tour Of Gran Turismo 5

You're riding shotgun as Game Informer's Senior Associate Editor, Matthew Kato, takes you on a guided tour of Gran Turismo's races and features. (WARNING: Both videos must finish loading before they will play, go grab a bowl of popcorn.)

Check out the first video to see the game in action as Matthew Kato tests out the new damage modeling.

In the following video Matthew Kato explains the new features for Gran Turismo 5.

  • Wow, this is a great idea! Who's idea was it?
  • I 'm just going to say it. The damage modeling was a tacked on feature or at the least, was just not done well. Watching that JGTC Supra slam into a wall at 140+ MPH and drive off with fender bender damage and no apparent impact on the handling was extremely disappointing.

Considering how well it is/was implemented in Forza 3, I expected more out of GT5.
  • Kato would make a good golf commentator
  • Nice feature guys! With the game dropping tomorrow, this is a definite sure fire way to get people pumped. Thanks Kato!

  • Is car damage that much of a determining factor in whether or not to get this game for people?
  • Thanks for these videos!

  • Thanks for the guided tour. Is it customary to tip the tour guide?
  • Wow, it took them all those years and they dont even let you change the wheels on every cars. Lazy. 9:00 built like a brick shithouse? OK, i have been waiting a long time for a game to have actual damage modeling. Nearly every hit you show for the first video would flip the car over the barrier and destroy it beyond repair.
  • Very, very informative. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

  • In the time it has taken to load one of these videos; The game came out, I was able to watch TV for an hour, decide to make an account to complain about how long the video was taking to load, subsequently Complain about how long it was taking the video to load and the videos still have yet to load.
  • Well done sir. This is how you do a tour. Very impressive.

The selection of used cars changed in GT4 as well. I believe there were a few that you could only get used, so if you wanted to collect everything you had to go through it a ton.

I would name my driver Jeeves or Mcfly and ride him hard! Be on his case if he screws up!

  • Thank you very much for that.  I appreciate it!  This game has been a big question mark for me, but seeing all the different things you can do, it looks like a great purchase.

  • How long does it take to save a photo?!

  • I want that game...

  • Need for speed is way better then this crap

  • Rofl, you can definitely see the cautious driving once he got out in first on that very first race. Seems like the damage is pretty... eh... non-existent, on standard cars at least. Not only lack of cosmetic stuff, but performance related... That was a huge disappointment to see.

O.O The photo segment was pretty unexpected. The moments after hitting the shutter, I mean.

  • How long are these videos? it’s been like 45 min and it’s still loading. OH there it goes, well that was kind of cool. I noticed they took out the cities thing like in all of the old ones.

  • that was long but interesting to watch... i kinda wish some features werent' included to expand on other important features

  • Same problem Ive had since GT4. Handling in A-Spec Mode looks like crap. It's why I did GT4 entirely in B-Spec Mode. The cars handle like they are stiff from a little you know what. Maybe it's just me, I don't know. Graphics look amazing as usual though. If I had a PS3, id pick up this game for sure.

  • dude to say the least this is very disappointing for time spent in development. Same stale camera angles, no motion blur/ camera shake, no commentary, shallow damage modeling. who really cares anymore there are more diverse racers now and the bar has not been raised. Racing games in general just need a major overhaul. I swear I've been playing the same racing game with a few tweaks here and there since the first GT....Where the innovation besides engine sounds.
