Wii Ranks Last In October Console Sales

by Jeff Marchiafava on Nov 17, 2010 at 11:40 AM

Cue the sad wah-wah trombone music: For the second month in a row, sales of Nintendo's motion-based console have fallen behind that of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Gamespot is reporting that Microsoft sold 325,000 consoles in October, making it the number one seller for the month. Sony and Nintendo haven't released official numbers, but according to the figures of Wedbush Securities' Michael Pachter, Sony sold 250,000 units, while Nintendo sold 232,000, a 54% drop from October of last year. The lineup mirrors the order of last month's sales, with the Xbox 360 selling 484,000 units, the PS3 selling 312,000 units, and the Wii selling 254,000 units. Before you shed a tear (or laugh unabashedly) at Nintendo's slump, keep in mind that Nintendo has sold 76 million Wiis to date, which puts it well in the lead for this generation of consoles.
