PlayStation 2 Is (Still) The Most Played Console In Japan

by Phil Kollar on Nov 16, 2010 at 02:00 PM

Want to know what's big in Japan for video games these days? Apparently, all you need to do is look to the past.

G4 has info on the results of a survey conducted at this year's Tokyo Game Show. 1,000 gamers attending the event were asked what gaming hardware they currently used the most, and for the second year in a row, the PS2 ended up on top, voted number one by 70% of those surveyed. The Nintendo DS, PSP, and Wii trailed behind (in that order). At the other end of the survey, a mere 19.6% of those surveyed said that they use their Xbox 360 regularly.

In addition to their current gaming habits, the survey asked attendees whether they plan to purchase new and upcoming hardware. 33% said they plan to buy a 3DS, while a dismal 7.7% and 6.3% are looking to purchase Sony's Move controller and Microsoft's Kinect device, respectively.

My question? If so many of these gamers are still mostly playing their PS2 and don't have plans to buy new hardware, what were they doing at Tokyo Game Show?
