FIFA Celebrates 100 Million With Free Download

by Matthew Kato on Nov 05, 2010 at 06:14 AM

100 million is a quantity that you'll probably never fully realize in your lifetime. 100 million sneezes? Probably not. 100 million lunches? Not even close. Despite the fact that you'll never experience this number, EA Sports' FIFA franchise has already hit that mark in its 18-year existence, selling 100 million copies worldwide to date.

The series has been getting better the past few years, and gamers have been rewarding its improvement with great sales. According to EA, FIFA 11 became the fastest-selling sports title of all time by selling 2.6 million copies worldwide in its first five days. The company expects this year's title to sell 20 percent more than FIFA 10 when all is said and done.

Although it's been available for free for a little while, EA is celebrating FIFA 11's milestone by offering the Ultimate Team mode for free – in FIFA 10 you had to pay to download it. This fantasy sports mode is so cool that other series like Madden and NHL have also picked it up.
