Fake iPhone Game From PSP Ad Now Real Game

by Phil Kollar on Nov 04, 2010 at 07:20 AM

Earlier this year, as part of Sony's latest push for their PSP handheld, they released an ad mocking iPhone games by showing off a title called "Lame Castle." Now an ex-Crystal Dynamics developer has turned Lame Castle into a real iPhone title.

Gamasutra has the story of Bradley Johnson, a developer who previously worked on XBLA hit Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. Johnson is now crafting games on his own and has kicked things off with Lame Castle, a "dash" game based off the title featured in Sony's commercial.

In the Gamasutra piece, Johnson explained why he left Crystal Dynamics after working on Guardian of Light:

"We made a great game, but it wasn't a cakewalk getting there. Overtime coupled with a 45 minute commute each way began to drain my soul. I'd come home unhappy and pissed off at the world. I was tired of feeling that way, and always wanted to make my own games so I left and started my own company, Be-Rad Entertainment."

If you want to check out Be-Rad's first work, Lame Castle is currently available on Android platforms and via browser on the Lame Castle website. An actual iPhone version is, of course, in the works. And just in case you missed the PSP ad that spawned this game, check it out below.
