Saints Row XBLA Features "Completely Original Game Mechanic"

Very little is known about THQ's upcoming Xbox Live Arcade spin-off of the Saints Row franchise, but apparently it's been going through some changes. According to a recent interview with THQ's Danny Bilson, the downloadable game will be "more unique" than originally planned.

Speaking to ShackNews, Bilson explained that the original vision for the XBLA game "wound up feeling...too much like a section of Saints Row that you could play in Saints Row." I'm imagining something similar to Dead Rising 2: Case Zero. Once they realized that, though, THQ went back to the drawing board and came up with a "completely original game mechanic and we're building out something that supports Saints Row with that."

What is this unique idea that sets it apart from a proper Saints Row game? Good question. Hopefully we'll find out soon, and hopefully it will tie into the mysterious Saints Row 3 in some cool way.

  • hmmm i wonder whats the "completely original game mechanic"

  • Maybe it's something to do with using a controller in conjunction with Kinect? (like I've been saying someone needs to do for months now)

  • Throw zombies at it. Thats the most obvious solution, right?

  • This guy has been all talk about the future of Saints Row & Saints Row 3 for awhile, and frankly, it's getting a little redundant. He's basically promised solid news for quite some time, and I don't think he has delivered on that yet.

If THQ doesn't have something solid to show for it in the near future, I'll file this one under "Potential DNF," for as of right now it's been nothing but vaporware, almost nonexistant if you will.

Unless I'm missing some major Saints Row 3 coverage, I have seen nothing that even hints that this game is well into development.
  • it'll be a kart racer..

  • My bet would be on Kinect specific mini games to pull off certain actions, kinda how they did it with GTA China Town Wars on DS.

  • i really don't think they should make another saint row its a big copy of gta as everyone knows that and way more boring ... you would think that it would be funner because of all the options you can do but it is not ...

:who thinks saint row 2 is better then gta 4 or san andreas at that matter:?
  • It will be a music game that requires you to buy an expensive peripheral and lets you kill people with the power of rock.

  • Saints Row made sandbox games fun again. Somewhere down the line, Rockstar games got hung up on writing every game like some weepy Japanese melodrama BS. It's okay to be tough, have some grit, kill people, and emote like your writing poetry for open mic night at the local Coffee Bean. When I play a game, I shouldn't have to apologize for running people over, selling drugs, or burning have the city to the freakin ground. It's a *** game.
  • Volition is good at tying in things from mulitiple games. And I love it
