[UPDATE] Capcom Talks About Inafune Departure

by Matt Helgeson on Nov 02, 2010 at 10:42 AM

The departure of legendary game designer Keiji Inafune sent shockwaves through the community of Capcom fans, and the company has finally commented on his exit. In a Q&A regarding the company's most recent financial report, Capcom stated the following:

"We have been thinking about radical reforms in our R&D operations in response to the rapid changes taking place in our markets. As we were under preparation for executing these structural reforms, Mr. Inafune stated that he wants to continue working as an independent creator. Capcom accepted this request, which led to the announcement of his resignation."

Whatever the reason, Capcom is now without the services of one of the greatest Japanese game creators of all time.

Later in the Q&A, the company also hinted that it may make more acquisitions of developers, like its recent purchase of Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle Games.

[UPDATE]

Capcom's Mega Man Legends 3 team has also released a statement regarding Inafune's departure:

"From all of us here on Mega Man Legends development team, we realize that events of the past few days have given many of you great cause for concern, and we apologize for taking so long to get back to you.

We have been reading all of your comments from the past few days, many of them expressions of anxiety and many of encouragement. Honestly, though many of us are still a little dazed and confused about all of this, the “can-do” fire inside us is still burning as hot as ever!

Not only will the dev team continue on with Legends 3 Project, we will push forward even harder than before to complete Mega Man Legends 3!
And just like up until now, we hope that you will continue to help the Legends 3 Project grow. Together, let’s make the best Mega Man Legends ever!

P.S. In the next post, we will be bringing you more details about our new powered-up Devroom community!"
