Killzone Special Edition Announced: $130

by Adam Biessener on Oct 28, 2010 at 06:52 AM

Dropping an extra $70 gets you the usual art book (which is also an "authentic Helghast helmet," oddly), action figure, and behind-the-scenes videos. It also brings electronic goods: a Retro Map Pack that contains two multiplayer maps from Killzone 2, a dynamic theme for your PS3, and all the weapons and abilities as well as double XP for your first 24 hours of multiplayer play.

We're all for Sony giving the fans what they want, and cool swag is cool swag. But how much is it going to suck for the rest of us getting wrecked by special edition purchasers for the first few weeks the game is live? Lame.

Oh wait, you can navigate the confusing array of specialty retailer pre-order bonuses to even the odds! The trend to making games different depending on where you buy them is the most totally awesome new thing in video games.

GameStop: The Retro Map Pack and 24 hours of all weapons and abilities online, but not the double XP bonus

Best Buy: The Retro Map Pack and double XP for 24 hours, but no unlockables honeymoon

Amazon: The Retro Map Pack 3 creatively named Unlock Points to be spent opening up new weapons and abilities

Everywhere else: The Retro Map Pack and the dynamic theme

So which silly bonus is going to win your temporary retail allegiance?
