The lights are on
We get a lot of press releases here at Game Informer, most of which are kind of awful. No, we're not interested in buying an island home with a 40-car garage. No, we're not interested in interviewing Snooki. Yes, we want to impress the ladies, but no, not by ingesting mysterious pills sold by someone who thinks numbers can be used interchangeably in words. Anyway, that's why we're especially happy to get things that are cool (and game related) in our inboxes.
Evil Controllers has devised a workaround to the dreaded Xbox 360 d-pad, which could be interesting to a lot of people. Unlike the original pad, which is a mushy mess (or the redesigned one, which is merely an elevated mushy mess), Evil's solution is to do away with the d-pad entirely and replace it with four discrete buttons. It's a little like the N64's c-button cluster, only these are bigger and are on the left side.
Evil says this eliminates accidental directional presses, is more accessible to disabled gamers, and will impress your friends. It's certainly more expensive than stock controllers ($55 for wired versions and $75 for wireless), but it could prevent a lot of headaches.
It's almost enough to make us forget that these are the same guys behind this kind of stuff...

How is the xbox 360 controller's D-Pad "dreaded"? I've never had any complaints...unless you are someone who enjoys using D-Pad over joystick maybe...
I don't see how the original controller's D-pad was all that bad.
360's dpad sucks...
What about diagonal directional hotkeys? Do you have to press two buttons simultaneously?
sweet i hate the 360 dpad
I'm not going spend more money on a 3rd-party controller than I would on a 1st-party one. I've been burned enough by 3rd-party accessories that I just stay away now (with the exception of Logitech).
I don't use the dpad that much... and when i do i don't recall particularly hating it... hm.
um why does everyone hate the 360 d-pad?i like it.
This would be a godsend after all those times I accidentally pulled out the wrong weapon in a game and died as a result.
Maybe I'll get this I am in the market for a new controller.
no need for buttons I enjoy the Dpad just fine
I will buy this..... Probably... Already x Dead brings up an intersting point...
I've actually played with an evil dpad and it's so good. My friend got it for Gears 3, but it was good for all of the games we were playing. Medal of Honor, Super Meat Boy, and Modern Warfare 2. We don't play a lot of fighting games, but people on here are weird, diagonals are done by pushing two of the buttons at once, not hard at all.
I really liked it.
I dunno what everyone is complaining about "there's no diagonal direction". It's common sense of pressing left/right + down/up at the same time...like the old days.
I'd get this controller.
I bought one of these and I absolutely love it!!! Couldn't be happier!!!
Up/Down + Left/Right means its going to diagonal in that direction. Common sense people, think before ya complain...know what I mean?
Not bad of a controller. My friend got one and I tried it out. Felt the groove of my moves to be more smooth.
