How To Move Rock Band 2 Tracks To Rock Band 3

by Matt Miller on Oct 26, 2010 at 09:39 AM

With Rock Band 3 out today, you can transfer most of the tracks from the last installment using this simple guide.

To get the process started, dig out your Rock Band 2 game manual and check out the back. You'll need the code you find there. Now, turn on your brand spankin' new copy of Rock Band 3, and follow this path: Main Menu > Get More Songs > Redeem Code. MTV Games and EA is going to charge you $9.99 to export the songs for licensing costs.

If you've lost your code, you can get it replaced by calling 650-628-1001. Alternately, check out the game's support site.

Sadly, some of the best songs from Rock Band 2 won't be making the transition, including:

"Any Way You Want It" by Journey
"Battery" by Metallica
"Give It Away" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Let There Be Rock" by AC/DC
"Spoonman" by Soundgarden

It adds up to some notable missing favorites. That said, nearly doubling your set list for $10 isn't a bad deal, as far as we're concerned. Stack on all the tracks you may have already exported from Rock Band 1, as well as the DLC songs you've accumulated over the years, and you could have quite the setlist to start playing right away.
