Diablo III Will Not Support Mods, Closed Beta Coming

Diablo fans have been itching for news all throughout BlizzCon, and though we haven't gotten a release date yet, here's a few other juicy morsels for you.

Lead designer Jay Wilson told G4 that there will be a closed beta for Diablo III. It will most likely be a Blizzard friends and family type of thing at first, but the public will most likely get a crack at the beta soon after. With talks of a beta here's hoping a release date announcement will be coming soon enough.

Wilson also said that Diablo III will not support mods, so whatever it is you were thinking about creating won't officially be supported.

  • its different then Starcraft 2. Starcraft is a Real time strategic game where this is more of a hack and slash/magic dungeon crawler where you control just one character.

  • this game doesn't look as good as i thought it would seeing how i've been waiting since diablo 2, but you know ,ching ching, more millions in blizzards pocket.

  • Right... because mods are evil.
  • I can't wait for D3!!! Too bad mods won't officially supported... *sigh* but this should be one of the best games coming to the pc

  • Not big surpise.  I can only think of two developers that support mods.  Just as long as Blizzard doesn't sue us for mods.

  • mods = hacking. Lets not forget all the stupid hacks and mods for Diablo and D2. It was so outta control that when they made D2 they had to create a separate partition on Bnet just for the legit players.
  • What will we do when there's no map hack and we're on our 2,000th run of the same kind for the best loot in the game?

  • I might just have to try this game since i liked dungeon seige!

  • Aren't mods risky to do anyway?

  • Yes. Let's hope they drop a release date (or even a slightly less vague release window) soon!

  • As long as I have single player/co-op, nothing else I really need, since this game is like any other Diablo, infinitely re-playable.

  • From the sound of the answers coming from the D3 Q/A sessions (lots of "we havent come to that yet") its safe to assume this will be a 2012 release... hopefully no later.

  • No mods?oh well.Play without them.
  • Uhhh YEA! DUH! Hello! You got people's Paypal/credit card info on this ***, and it's online only. You better not have mods. You got issues of Dupe hacks and a REAL Time/Real Money Auction house?

come on people...don't expect to mod some one elses game just because some of their other games have some.
