[UPDATE] Classic X-Men Arcade Game Finally Coming To XBLA And PSN

UPDATE: Konami has put out a press release confirming more details about the project, including the number of supported players and the release date.

The classic arcade brawler will be coming sooner than expected: fall 2010. That means you'll be beating up Magneto within the next couple months! Of course, you won't be doing it alone; X-men supports four players locally and six players online.

Original Story: During a panel at New York Comic-Con this fine morning, Marvel reps granted the dreams of millions of brawler fans the world over. The 1992 Konami X-Men arcade game is headed to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it's a 6-player brawler featuring Cyclops, Storm, Nightcrawler, Dazzler, Colossus, and Wolverine. A trailer shown at the panel apparently confirmed drop-in, drop-out online co-op. Also, all of the "cheese" from the original with be faithfully reproduced. No world on whether we'll see enhanced visuals or new modes. We're also very curious on release date and price.

OMFG is right! Holy sh*t! This is one of the games that sealed my fate as a gamer. I dumped endless amounts of (my mother's) money into trying to beat this game and finally did it on a $5 bill. It also was my first exposure to the X-Men and how I fell in love with Storm (who had 4 lives, if I recall).

Hmm, probably for 360 for the 'chievos.

Is this going to be a direct port (cheap = good) or a new HD'fied version (graphics update = good)?
*Edit: Okay I see you're still wondering the same. Anyway that's really the only thing I question, a purchase is inevitable. I'm hoping they go all out with a hawt new skin for this awesome old game.

Also, now that I've got my remembering cap on, if they're doing heavy work on this, nix Dazzler and give us ANYONE else.

Dazzler in my own home. Yesss.

Had a chance to buy the 6 player cabinet for about $300 once, but had no room in the dorm. At least this makes up for it. Kind of.

OMFG indeed!. I put more money in this cabinet than any other over the years. One of my all time favorite games and still one of the best comic book games to grace any platform. Please give this the HD treatment it deserves, and if u have the time, maybe a couple extra characters? Just a thought....

Oh man, I remember playing all the way through this game with my best friend at his Round Table Pizza b-day party back when I was 10. We ignored everyone else at the party--his parents hated it. lol

Holy crap I didnt recall the music being so cheesy. I believe this and the Simpsons brawler were tied for how many coins they took from me, after all the Mortal Kombats,MvC and Primal Rages of the arcade.
