The lights are on
The World of Warcraft subscriber base continues to grow leading up to the December 7 launch of Cataclysm, now topping off at 12 million subscribers worldwide. Blizzard attributes the recent Chinese launch of Wrath of the Lich King for pushing the number over the edge.
“The support and enthusiasm that gamers across the world continue to show for World of Warcraft reaffirms our belief that it offers one of the best entertainment values available today,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We are as committed as ever to taking the game to new heights, and we look forward to demonstrating that with Cataclysm in December.”
Blizzard caps their press push with good news. Due to company and franchise success, they are currently hiring for “numerous open positions.” You can find more information on the job listings here.
wow 12 Million :0
I wonder if any other MMO can compete with WoW.
12 million people are making a mistake.
Or, you could say Blizzard/Activision has $180,000,000 a month to pay the bills.
Wow. That's sad.
Wow, it's still gone up as all the burn outs continue to go? I'm impressed... or really disappointed.
thats bigger than a third world country!
how many of this 12 million are Chinese gold farmers?
I have include myself in one of they new subscribers lol.
And the grinding bus just keeps on growing. Just wait till Cataclysm hits, probably jump by at least another million people coming back.
i'm one of them!
One of my residents was kicked out of school for this. Tried everything, mentors, study sessions, invading his room when his roommates had the door open... I couldn't force him to go to class... At the end of the semester, he didn't pack up his crap, almost missed his flight (I had to call a cab for him) and had to throw out almost everything but his clothes.
This game took control of his life. Sad.
Hope Cataclysm is good. Excited about this and I hope Cataclysm doesn't develope the same drudge Lich King has right now.
will the madness never end?!!
seriously 12 million.
Interesting news, considering that less than two weeks ago I distinctly recall them saying that WoW's subscription numbers had been slowly slipping from thier peak at 11 million. And now suddenly thier back up to 12 million concurent subscriptions?
I smell shenanigans here!
Sounds to me like thier using the asian markets micro transation playerbase to fudge the numbers again (like they did with burning crusade) Its funny how no one ever really has any concrete proof as to any MMO's actual subscription count. Sometimes I really wish they'd be required to post the actual tally on a daily or even weekly basis. I'd elike to know how many people actually leave the game over patches etc and how many return with the next patch/expansion. Sadly there is nothing that holds the developers to give exact and clearly definable numbers.
I'm glad they're so successful with WoW. That means they can just spend that much money on Starcraft and Diablo!
I'm proud to be one of them.
Is this there highest ever peak? Very impressive.
