Activision Working On NASCAR Game?

by Matthew Kato on Sep 25, 2010 at 04:38 AM

NASCAR fans have been without a full NASCAR console game since the racing association and Electronic Arts parted ways a few years ago. Now a report says that EA's competitor Activision is behind the wheel of an upcoming game.

According to Gamasutra, UK developer Eutechnyx (SuperCar Challenge and Big Mother Truckers) is preparing NASCAR 11 for a release in February before the Daytona 500. Details such as the drivers, sponsors, tracks, and NASCAR racing series involved have not been disclosed.

Gran Turismo 5 features NASCAR and some of its drivers, but it's more of a sample of stock car racing than it is a full-fledged use of the license. I've talked to NASCAR licensing officials in the past, who told me that the association's video game licensing philosophy for the foreseeable future is to offer multiple NASCAR games from multiple developers instead of the kind of exclusive deal it previously had with EA. This mantra is already in effect, as iRacing currently creates an online sim-racing game using NASCAR.
