Figuring Out Professor Layton’s Tricks

by Ben Reeves on Sep 24, 2010 at 03:30 PM

Ever puzzle over how Professor Layton’s mind twisting challenges get pieced together? It’s no easy task. In fact, Level-5, the studio behind the Layton series, has had to enlist some expert help. [Expert]

In a recent interview, Level-5 president Akihiro Hino told us, “It’s actually a constant battle to create puzzles that feel new and interesting. With each title, we meet with [best selling puzzle book author and noted psychologist] Akira Togo and his team repeatedly, and we struggle to come up with new puzzles together. In the course of making one game, we’ll go on these puzzle-creation retreats about three times.”

We wish we could have been a fly on the wall for those meetings. Of course, then we would have to live as a fly, and that would suck. What a stupid saying.
