Update: Dissidia Sequel Coming To US In 2011

UPDATE: Square Enix has confirmed that Dissidia Duodecim will be coming to North America sometime next year, bringing along new characters (only Tifa, Lightning, and Kain have been announced) and an option to make the combat feel more like the traditional menu-based system of the Final Fantasy series. The original Dissidia had a similar option, so we'll have to wait and see what exactly has changed. In the meantime, we can keep speculating on what characters will be joining the fight. Personally, I'm hoping for Seifer.

ORIGINAL STORY: Dissidia was a Final Fantasy fan's dream come true. Unfortunately, it was one of those dreams where everything is kind of disjointed and muddled without explanation. Still, plenty of gamers bought and enjoyed Dissidia, and the upcoming sequel will give them even more opportunities to see their favorite characters in action.

The next title, called Dissidia Duodecim: Final Fantasy, was revealed in a recent issue of the Japanese publication Weekly Shonen Jump. In addition to the title's ridiculous name, only a few other details have been revealed. The game will be a PSP title like its predecessor, releasing in Japan sometime next year (with no official North American release yet).

Only two characters have been unveiled: Lightning from FF XIII and Kain from FF IV (otherwise known as FF II for SNES). Whether or not the previous roster of characters will be returning isn't clear. I'm happy to see Kain, since he's one of my favorite video game characters ever, so maybe I'll like this entry better than the last one. Which characters are you hoping to see make an appearance?
