First Live Metal Gear Solid Rising Gameplay Shown At Microsoft TGS Keynote

by Phil Kollar on Sep 15, 2010 at 03:50 PM

Microsoft kicked off their Tokyo Game Show keynote in style tonight with the first live gameplay demo of Metal Gear Rising.

After a shortened version of the E3 trailer for MGS Rising played, Shigenobu Matsuyama, the game's producer, took the stage to show off the crazy swordplay running live on hardware for the first time ever. Rather than playing a full level or an enemy encounter, the demo was merely to demonstrate how the slicing displayed in the trailer works when the game is running.

The short demonstration featured Raiden spawning near a bunch of tables filled with watermelons, milk crates, bowling pins, and other items for him to show off his skills with. It also showed off one of those little three-armed robots from Metal Gear Solid 4, which was able to grab items and juggle them while Raiden attempted to cut them in mid-air.

Although they aren't ready to announce a release date yet, Matsuyama said Rising's development is continuing "according to schedule."

Stay tuned for more on Metal Gear Solid Rising and TGS as the show begins in full today and tomorrow.
