The lights are on
If one title in the history of the industry specifically targets the nostalgia cortex of gamer's brains, it's Super Mario Bros. 3. It featured far more gameplay variety than the original SMB, and was more of a traditional Mario game than the polarizing North American sequel. It would be a shoo-in for the title of "best 2D Mario" if it weren't for the amazing Super Mario World (a debate we get into during this Super Replay). It's one of the few titles that can stir up fond memories for hardcore gamers and non-gamers alike. It didn't matter if you were a Nintendo nerd, captain of the football team, theater geek, or a cheerleader...you probably played and loved this game.
Most of us played this game two decades ago, but I wanted to see just how well the gameplay holds up in 2010. Join myself and several other GI staffers as we work our way through all eight worlds of Super Mario Bros. 3. No warp whistles!
Part 1 - Guest: Andrew Reiner
Part 2 - Guest: Tim Turi
Part 3 - Guest: Matt Helgeson
Part 4 - Guest: Ben Reeves
OH YEAH!
Dan is redeemed.
God help you, Reiner. God help you.
Reiner was wrong. you never said 1980. you definitely said that it came out in 1990 the first time.
It wont let me play this on my iPhone either!! Lame!!
watching this made me want to scratch my eyes out
Comments on Part 1
-idk if anyone else caught this, but Dan said 1990, not 1980. Apparently you are dumb Reiner. :)
-There's another Warp Whistle in either stages 1 or 3 in World 1 (once again, Japanese guy beats the game in 11 minutes... with 99 lives (you should see how he does World 8)).
-The Sun wasn't even that bad. All you do is jump over it. It'd be worse if he homed in on you.
-Was this the first game the Chain Chomps appeared in?
-@Reiner: Do you feel the same for "Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Part 1" as you would a retread of SMB3?
-Reiner did the castle.
-Really, Dan, you did just pick it.
-Jesus, with all the arguing and banter you'd think this was a co-op replay of NSMB Wii.
-"Are you flexing?"
www.youtube.com/watch
-Big fish eating reiner. No kidding.
-Yup. Dan's the better player. Wanna play Memory?
i can't believe you've never tried all those foods, reiner, you suck bro, and i'll take the job as editor
Maaan I wish I was there as your guest. I own face at SMB3. So many spots where I wanted to just go "Noooo, there's a music box there! Where are you going...?" or "Fly up there, there's a crap-ton of hidden coins there." and hidden coins and 1-ups and stuff. Like how you didn't fly up in the first music box cloud coin place, where there's a ton more coins and a 1-up. Just walked right past it. I made a sad-face... I used to play through the entire game every day at work, not skipping any levels, even when the paths split. And I called those "hologram" things laser-waffles.
I love this game so much. ;-;
Dan's never seemed as bad at games as everyone jokes about, especially with how well he did the first super replay. This first part of SMB3 super replay is proof that it is not Dan, but Reiner that should be made fun of for sucking at games. Never forget the hammer bros and fish death, and defiantly always remind him about the cloud screw up.
Great replay! This was one of my favorite games growing up and it still is today. You know you can take out the evil sun with a koopa shell right? He comes back but it saves you a few seconds of terror. Can't wait for tomorrow's episode!
First time watching one of these Super Replays. I did enjoy it surprisingly good job guys. lol
you guys forgot about the hammer secret on world 2!!!!
Yahoo! It's - a - Part 2!
I'm guessing from World 3 to world 5 or 6.
In world one that music block was in the first pit you mentioned on the left. Reiner just failed and missed it repeatedly.
Tons of said this, but I can't believe Reiner used the cloud...unacceptable!
Great replay by the way! Keep it up
Also, was Reiner serious about the job opening?
Spadooki!
Is something wrong with the mikes? I can barely hear the commentary on the video, which is weird since the opening theme worked just fine.
Wow. Does Reiner always suck this much? As for working for Gameinformer, what qualifications do you need? I have dreamt about that ever since I received the Ocarina of Time issue, my first issue of GI ever.
Gotta love that Super Replay opening music!
That last part was tense! I'm gonna laugh if you lose all your lives in the next segment :P
Shadookie!
