Dead Rising: Case 0 Has 300,000 Players

Capcom took a risk with Case 0. Instead of making a free demo for Dead Rising 2, the company charged $5 for Case 0, which gives players a feel for the gameplay while providing content that will carry over to main game. The only question was whether people would pay for small taste of Dead Rising 2. Apparently, the answer is a resounding "yes."

Judging by the online leaderboards for Case 0, over 300,000 players have picked up the prequel. That's not bad for any downloadable game, but it's especially impressive considering that Case 0 has only been out for one week.

Gamers are accustomed to getting their demos for free, but the success of Case 0 demonstrates that paying to get an early sample of an exciting game can be a viable strategy. The trick is to provide worthwhile content. I'd be willing to pay for a condensed, standalone experience that acts as a demo. However, there's no way I'd pay for a regular demo culled straight from the retail version of the game.

  • Is it any good? I've never played any Dead Rising but I really wanna give this a try.

  • Sadly, i am not one of the 300,000. Has there been any news about it coming to PSN?

  • Dang double post.
  • It was awsome and smoother than the last one and the saving is alot better.  Bravo

  • Bought, loved it.  Building a bucket with drills stuck through the bottom and putting that through a zombie's head.... priceless.

But for $5, totally worth it.  It's a stand alone story and pretty good one at that.  You actually think this guy cares for his little girl.  Never seen that kind of emotion in a Japanese based gaming publisher. Hats off to Capcom.

  • Seriously, did micro buy the rights to it or not?

  • Wow! 300k ppl!

  • I'm happy Capcom has found a way to demo their games and profit off it, but mad they didn't make a PS3 version.

  • I bought the sh*t out of this the first second I could.  No exaggeration, in terms of what I got for 5 dollars, it might be one the best 5 dollars I ever spent.  I played for at least 8-9 hours total.  Great fun, experience carries over, a half-decent story and multiple endings!  Chuck isn't quite the protagonist Frank West was, but the ability to combine things to make new, super deadly weapons is amazing.  Double-Chainsaw Paddle ftw!

  • Yes I spent many hours in this 5$ jewel of a demo.

  • why isn't it on PSN?

  • Yeah, I like it. Pretty good game. I had never played Dead Rising before either, but I'm impressed. Even if it is just a download. It's cheap, it has achievements. What more do you want...the whole game?  LOL

  • I purchased it and love it. Cant wait to port over my already level 5 hero.

$5.00 isnt much for this great content. There's already an overflow of Arcade titles on LIVE that are way overpriced, Doom for $5.00? No thanks.

Anyways, Case Zero excels in replayability, Trying to get 1,000 zombie kills ala achievement reward. I'd like to see this kind of demo/dlc in the future. I'll pay.
  • I'm one of them! yay!

  • great, now companies are gonna start charging money for demos which are just little snipets of the game they're demoing, so now i'll have to pay for a demo and then pay for the level again once i buy the full game

  • I really would like to play this, but due to my xbox being a piece of crap I need to save up for a new one. Though I do kinda wish this prologue would've been part of the full game, not that I wouldn't mind paying 5 bucks for it but since I don't have a credit card or anything i'd have to dish out 20 but i'd get other stuff too anyways so it wouldn't be a total loss.

  • The gameplay was amazing and the game itself was addicting but hats off to Capcom for conveying the emotional relationship between Chuck and Katey. I actually felt bad for Chuck's situation because of Katey's problem with Zombrex but if you don't give it to her she will turn into a zombie, and then when Katey asked Chuck why "mommy bit me?" phew, that was some good stuff, the package is amazing, especially for a $5 DLG

  • Need to get Live

  • Pre-release DLC. What a concept.

I need more memory on my 360, otherwise I'd totally be up for it (and I don't even own the first game, my nephew does).

  • I'm really thinking about getting this.
