Microsoft Still Interested In Halo Movie, TV Series Possible

In an interview with Variety, Microsoft's Frank O'Connor said the company is still very much "interested in making an excellent Halo movie" despite roadblocks that have kept the Halo universe off the big screen.

"We've created an awful lot of documentation and materials to support a feature film," O'Connor says. "We have a good idea of what kind of story we want to tell, but won't move on it until there's a great reason to do it. We're in no particular hurry." He goes on to say that any film adaptation of the Halo universe would be a standalone story and not a verbatim retelling of any of the games in the franchise.

Not only is the company pulling for a big budget film, Microsoft is also "intently watching" the TV landscape for a possible TV series. While Halo: Reach launches next week, it probably won't be the last time you see a Spartan in action.

Comments
  • it better not be!!!

  • halo;harvest?

  • This may be the coolest thing ever, or the worst. I guess we'll have to see when they make it.

  • I dont think they could do the halo universe justice with a tv show.

  • Glad to see Microsoft is delaying production of a Halo movie so that they can actually (hopefully) create a quality piece of cinema rather than try to capitalize on Halo's current mainstream popularity with cheap crap. Halo as a franchise deserves better than some quick Uwe Boll mess.

  • a halo tv series? that sounds stupid

  • i'm glad MS wants the Halo movie to have a standalone rather than a crappy retelling. maybe based on one of the books, perhaps?

  • I don't really like the idea of a TV series, it'll lose the momentous feeling out a live action spartan. Like we get glimpses of a real life Halo every once in a while (Halo: Reach commercial, Neil Blomkamp's shorts) and its breathtaking. But seeing it every week in your living room...bleh. A Halo movie would be perfect, 343 Industries take your time, If I knew it would not be out for fifteen years i'd be fine with it as long as you did it justice. and to be honest I have always thought Bungie's weakest area was in narration, Ill be very interested to see what 343 has in store. 343 literature has been great!

  • A tv series could actually turn out pretty good. I think I would rather watch a movie though

  • I personally don't think a Halo movie would be a very good idea. I don't understand why Hollywood just can't let games be games. They've done a pretty good job of ruining essentially every game to film adaptation so far.

  • I hope they maka a TV series.

  • If they do make a Halo movie, it will either be really good or Uwe Boll.

  • If a halo movie does come out featuring the badass aka Master Chief it will shatter Avatar becoming the highest grossing movie of all time.

  • Lol, Halo: The TV series. Really?

  • can't wait till halo 4 comes out.

  • halo movie would be a kickass but a tv series not so sure

  • A movie would be awesome but a t.v series? i dont know about that

  • I'd like to see a standalone story for a Halo movie. Maybe we could get a lead character with more personality that Master Chief (like a traffic cone, or Ben Stein).

  • I like this idea as long as the movie and series is made with cooperation with microsoft
