Stopping Cheaters In Black Ops Is Top Priority For Treyarch

by Jeff Marchiafava on Sep 02, 2010 at 01:00 PM

Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer has been plagued by cheaters taking advantage of glitches, and Black Ops developer Treyarch has taken notice. In a recent interview, the game's online director Dan Bunting made it clear the company has a special weapon ready for players who try to cheat their way up the ranks in Black Ops: the ban hammer.

Bunting told Nowgamer that Treyarch is well aware of the impact cheating has had on the Call of Duty series, stating it has "diminished the reputation of the franchise in a lot of people's eyes." Luckily, Treyarch has plans in place to deal with any potential problems. "We have a lot of anti-cheating, anti-boosting stuff going on behind the scenes, so we are monitoring that...We're going to have a very heavy hand in the online security of our game." He added, “Cheating won't pay. It'll just bring down the ban hammer.”

This should come as welcome news to Modern Warfare 2 fans. Treyarch has gotten a lot of flak from gamers in the past as being a developer that just pumps out sequels to other studio's franchises, but I have to say, everything I've read about Black Ops has been promising. We'll bring you more on the game as we approach its November 9 release date.
