StarCraft II Sales Break 3 Million Mark

We already know StarCraft II is a popular game – having sold 1.5 million units in the 48 hours after its release. Activision provided another update today, adding that worldwide sales have passed the 3-million mark in the first month at retail. According to analysts, Activision Blizzard could see the number grow to 5-6 million units before the end of the year. We don’t foresee that being a problem if the current momentum continues.

“We appreciate all the enthusiasm that players around the world have shown for StarCraft II," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "It was important to us to deliver an overall gameplay experience that was accessible, balanced, and fun, and it's been gratifying to see how strongly the global community has already embraced the game.”

Are you one of the millions who have “embraced the game?”

  • Hmm perhaps I shouldn't be, but I am surprised! I don't know anyone who plays PC games, but I guess that doesn't mean there isn't a large install base out there. Sucks that it's activision raking in the money...*** thieves

  • I AM HEER! CLICK ME!
  • my life for aiur

  • Glad it sold so well, can't wait to see the sales of Diablo 3.

  • Narp... but soon I shall have the means to give it a try.

  • That's pretty impressive, too bad the freaking game that I have is buggy.  So I can't play it.

  • I AM... not.

  • so only a 80 million US dollar profit?

  • En Taro Adun, Gameinformer.

  • Very well deserved.

  • hey blizzard, in order to keep getting more fans, you must construct additional pylons :D

  • I have not embraced StarCraft simply because I don't have the massive number of hours I would allegedly have to dedicate to the game. It seems like something you have to go all out on in order for the experience to be truly meaningful, and I simply don't have that time between other video games and my life outside the console (yes, it exists XP).

No doubt that StarCraft II is an amazing game though and hats off to the people who own at it, no small feat.

  • never played the original or the sequel

  • Wow, that's already 180mil in sales. If they were ALL sold at regular price. Now, that is what I call a dedicated, and profitable fan base.
