The World of Front Mission Evolved

The Front Mission Evolved developers over at Double Helix Games talk about some of the intricacies of the game's story, including a short rundown of the rival factions: The UCS (Unified Continental States) and the OCU (Oceanic Community Union).

The world of Evolved has political tensions and detante not unlike the Cold War, but this time there are elevators that will literally take you all the way up into space. And wanzers, of course. You'll play as USN engineer Dylan Ramsey, who naturally gets embroiled in these worldwide events.

  • All I thought of when I saw those space elevators was "What if those were Mass Effect elevators?".

The game looks pretty cool from what I saw in this trailer. They should release a demo so I can say the same about the gameplay.

  • Never been a huge fan of Front Mission, but this game looks to have some potential. I just hope the gameplay is good this time around.

  • Never even heard of this series....in fact the ONLY reason why i know who Square Enix is, is because they published the Final Fantasy series o.o

  • I don't think i even heard of this game until this but it looks pretty cool.

  • I'm easy to please when it comes to mech combat games... don't fail me now!

  • If the gameplay is good, I might give it a try, but I've had horrible experiences with Front Mission in the past....

  • No more Mech games!

  • Great I know more about the plot than the actual gameplay....how about the gameplay folks....plot is good and all but it still boils down to being a fun game to play.

  • Kinda undecided about this game. Agree with BatmanPrime about the need for a demo, though.

  • Well the environments dont look to awesome except the jungle and space. But this could be a very interesting game. Showing some interest.

  • I am SOOOO pumped for this:)

I like Double Helix -at least the Collective half. AKA, the talented half. The stupid Shiny half is responsible for crap like GI Joe - and Front Mission's fiction has always interested me. I just don't care for strategy games. And I know there's a vocal minority of fanboys who are up in arms over Front Missions' change in genre, but screw them. How many Front Mission fans were there anyway here in the west? 12? Its time to try something new...though I will admit, I wish Square-Enix's character designers worked on this game. The bland, western characters here are really boring looking.

There's a void here for great mech action games - its been ages since Armored Core did anything exciting, and Mechassault is no longer with us. They don't even bring that many Gundam titles over here anymore (not necessarily a bad thing considering most of them suck), and of course Zone of the Enders 3 is still just a distant dream. A new, action take on Front Mission is JUST what the doctor ordered for fans of giant robots. If this game is at least a 7, I'll be happy.
  • Hmm. I dunno. I was sort of disappointed with the last Mech game I played (Armored Core 4). This looks very similar, and I would very much prefer to not be disappointed again.

  • I think the whole giant mech thing is in need of a front row pass. There hasn't been too many big things since Gundam Wing

  • Im pumped for this game.. but I also, like many hope that this game is not another shitty slapped together take on a mech genre game. Yes we need a demo. Honestly, if they do mess this game up it will be sad since there is such a lack of games like this in the west. You would think a developer could be creative enough and put together a solid playing game and show us something new. We could use more Mech type games. These type of my games catch my interest far more than another *** first person shooter set in yes you guessed it vietnam or world war 2. I took enough history classes and I sure could use some fictional game about mechs and I sure as hell know that blowing *** up in giant robots is fun and these games only need to polish crontrol mechanics and give it some good DLC and bam we have a successful mech game. Lets also hope that this running around on the ground outside of a mech feature is just as enjoyable as being in a mech. (See Chromehounds = Failure on that part). Ah but overall im looking forward to it and will suggest it to friends if its good!!!
  • The last Front Mission game I played was Front Mission 3, and it kicked major ass! Looking forward to  a demo or something so I can check this game out!
