The lights are on
Following the news of Nintendo dropping prices on their handheld systems, Microsoft is countering with a significantly less appealing price modification of their own. Starting November 1, the one-month, three-month, and year subscriptions to Xbox Live will increase in price. The new rates can be found below. Current1M Gold: $7.993M Gold: $19.9912M Gold: $49.99Starting Nov 1, 20101M Gold: $9.993M Gold: $24.9912M Gold: $59.99Major Nelson, who just dropped the news, had this to say: “Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.”With the addition of new features like Avatars, Netflix integration and Facebook compatibility, a significant amount of content has been added to the service since Xbox Live’s launch. Still, do you think the increase is warranted?
Nelson encourages users to lock in a significantly discounted price before the increase is implemented in November.
when did we want avatars again?
What? Dang that sucks... Maybe I'll store up 12-months for the future...
Only $10 more per year? With the addition of avatars, I would easily pay $50 more.
Dang, Micro$oft indeed. The increase is totally not needed, especially for broke people like me.
greedy f**ks
*** THAT.
avatars dumb. netflix is offered by nintendo for free. and facebook. i could care less. last fm. decent but pandora is free. so needless to say this is bullcrap. they better get me some new features with the money. or imma be p.o'd. serriously. takin money from the little man. aint right.
i hate this a lot. however, i love Live's online features. they are much more superior than PSN's and the population is high (even though most of them are whiny little 10 year olds with loud mouths and the urge to spout racial slurs and vulgar language). you will complain about the price hike but you will forget about it within a few months.
Hopefully they give us are moneys worth otherwise I will be buying 1 year subscriptions like a buffet right now.
No but seriously this is dumb. Argh what ever. As long as we get are moneys worth then I'm fine.
That's not bad at all. Especially if you just add another year on now.
FFFFFFUUUUUUU!!!!!
“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, ..."
Not for all regions ...
in France we don't have Netflix & Last fm, the zune market is empty, we will not have hulu or espn but the price will bump...
It already costs 60euros (76$) !
greedy Micro$oft
Aside from Netflix, there's never been a single service they've added to Live for which I've felt was worth increasing the price of Live as a whole (and since we already pay for Netflix separately, that's a moot point). I hope our $10 more a year goes for substantially more awesome things than ESPN. And seriously, raising the price of your product during a nasty economic downturn that's almost certainly going to get worse? Sounds like M$ is up to its old tricks...
Not terrible. You get what you pay for, and Live's content has always been worth it. Still, people are going to cry whenever they have to pay for something, as if they're entitled to free service.
Can you at least include "Hulu Plus" and improved server reliability at that price?
And, it seems like Kinect will not succeed with hurricane force as anticipated, so I hope the price hike is not related to some feature based on this device.
Disappointing, but Live has so many amazing features that a ten dollar price raise isn't going to stop me from buying it. I still think Live is worth sixty bucks.
f tht no way im out ms
I can't get F***** netflix cause i got it when i was younger then 18 so my price shouldn't up for netflix if i cant use it
Ugh...With all the money Microsoft has it doesn't need to raise prices! I mean sure...I'm still going to pay for it because of all the games I play online, but Microsoft is really pushing it. Microsoft is lucky that they have a better online than Sony, because if they were the same I would quit live right now.
