The lights are on
Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption was a smashing success, and we all know what success means for a video game: movie tie-ins! If the latest Hollywood rumor is to be believed, studios are scrambling to put together a big screen version of Red Dead starring none other than Brad Pitt (pictured above in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford).
Showbiz Spy brings us this rumor from an unnamed Hollywood insider. Apparently the idea for the film adaptation is "to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches." Pitt is being targeted for the lead role and is "being given first refusal" -- i.e. no other actors will be considered unless he turns it down.
It seems like making a Red Dead Redemption movie could be a little strange, seeing as the game itself is already extremely cinematic and borrows heavily from scenes, characters, and plot threads from older Western films. Does anyone else feel like we're getting trapped in some horrifying time loop where games recycle ideas from movies that then recycle ideas from games?
This would be a better choice:
Get rid of Brad Pitt and I'd be interested. I cannot see him pulling off Marston well. It's too bad Clint Eastwood is so old, a younger version of him would be perfect.
I actually like Brad Pitt in most of the stuff he is in (Fight Club, Inglorious Basterds) so I whole-heartedly embrace this decision. Please don't screw this one up, Hollywood.
This could possibly be good, cause Brad Pitt is a quality actor(Seven) so I dont think Brad would do it if it was gonna suck. Lets hope ethier Quentin Taratino directs, the game had a Tarantino feel to it, or John Hillcoat who directed the little RDR tv movie.
brad pitt should play as john's son, he kinda looks like him (older version)
(spoiler) maybe it could follow Marston's son, because he basically became an outlaw at the end of the game? Or maybe a prequel? Now that would be worth watching.
if you want to see the red dead redemption movie, go watch Unforgiven, its got a very similar plot, although if you want more action then just watch the dollars trilogy, there isn't really a point in making a movie for a game thats based on movies
Yes Yes Yes! He perfect for the part he can do any accent.
Brad Pitt's a good actor, but he doesn't really look much like Marston. Still, if he did get picked he'd probably do a good job.
If they are going to make a game into a movie, i would want to see Uncharted not Red Dead.
Here we go again....-_-
I'd see it.
for some reason I can see pitt doing this. *** it's a western, the more stoic he is the better.
Also, if there isn't a blood spattered closeup of his face while he's gutting an animal, the whole project will fail
I thought Josh Brolin would play him.
