The lights are on
Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption was a smashing success, and we all know what success means for a video game: movie tie-ins! If the latest Hollywood rumor is to be believed, studios are scrambling to put together a big screen version of Red Dead starring none other than Brad Pitt (pictured above in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford).
Showbiz Spy brings us this rumor from an unnamed Hollywood insider. Apparently the idea for the film adaptation is "to make this in the style of an epic Western movie but with a few modern touches." Pitt is being targeted for the lead role and is "being given first refusal" -- i.e. no other actors will be considered unless he turns it down.
It seems like making a Red Dead Redemption movie could be a little strange, seeing as the game itself is already extremely cinematic and borrows heavily from scenes, characters, and plot threads from older Western films. Does anyone else feel like we're getting trapped in some horrifying time loop where games recycle ideas from movies that then recycle ideas from games?
I'd like to believe this, but unfortunately I'd only get my hopes up for them then to be crushed when there is no follow up.
Ideas are the soylent green of Hollywood. But, I love Westerns flicks and I love video game Westerns so I'll shed a couple of bucks for this one.
why is every big named game being made into a movie. it getting kinda annoying to me
Go get Daniel Day-Lewis
Obviously no one here has seen The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford. Brad Pitt played his role to perfection as Jesse James and was snubbed by the Oscars. Brad Pitt has many movies he has done where he has been phenomenal (Snatch., Twelve Monkeys, Se7en, etc.) but no one gives him credit because he is a "Hollywood heart-throb". People need to realize he is a great actor.
I'd love to see it, if done well. I would love an MGS or God of War movie also. Mass Effect would be ace too.
*** it. I've said all along that Josh Brolin was born to play John Marston...
It does sound like a goofy entertainment loop. Another example is Scott Pilgrim.
This is a horrible idea.
DONT DO IT! TRY SOMEONE WITH A ACTUAL ACCENT!
I can see this happening and being awesome
Let's do the Time Warp again.
As long as uwe boll doesn't touch this, it probably will be decent or at least slightly below average
I can't c Brad Pitt being John Marston
J.J Abrams or Zack Snyder please make this movie...
I'd rather see GTA 4 turned into a movie. But I'll still watch it.
It doesn't matter who the lead is, video game movies suck. Red Dead is amazing and it would be awful to see them tarnish an amazing experience with a craptastic movie tie in
