Every Console Has A Great DLG This Week

by Matt Miller on Aug 25, 2010 at 11:10 AM

If there's a downloadable game this week that might be worth your time, we'll tell you about it.

Shank is out on XBLA and PSN this week, and it deserves the attention of anyone who's up for some bloody, stylish action. The beautifully animated art style is the star of the show, but the fast and furious combat takes a close second. Telling the tale of the revenge-fueled violence spree of a thug named Shank, the M-rated title certainly isn't for everyone. But if you've got the stomach for the highly charged violence and sex at the core of the game, Shank makes for a great ride. As a plus, the game includes an entire second campaign to play cooperatively with a friend. If it sounds like something that might be up your alley, the game's available now on PS3 for $14.99, or on Xbox 360 for 1200 Microsoft points ($15). If you still can't make up your mind, check out the video below, or read our full review.

If you're been patiently waiting for your opportunity to play Scott Pilgrim vs. the World on your 360, then your day has finally come. The crazy, pixilated brawling of Scott Pilgrim is now available on Xbox Live Arcade for a paltry 800 points ($10). And, in case you missed it the first time around, the game's already available on PSN for the same price. Four player local co-op, leveling characters, and more evil exes than you can shake a stick at are included in one of the best throwback action games in memory. Here's our complete review.

Next up: This week's best WiiWare game, and Sony brings a retail game to download

And Yet It Moves has arrived on WiiWare, and you should check it out. The indie darling has been available on PC for many months, but this week represents the first time you'll be able to find the game on a home console. In a world of paper cut outs, you must navigate your character by shifting the structure of gravity around him, turning walls into floors even as he jumps through the air. It's a fascinating title that has been fleshed out for play on the Wii through the addition of new levels and optional motion controls. The video below should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

One other interesting game of note is dropping this week on PSN -- what looks like a sort of experiment on Sony's part to bring more players into an existing retail game by offering a smaller version via download. MotorStorm Pacific Rift has been reworked and reduced for sale on PSN, where it's been rebranded as Motorstorm 3D Rift. While offering 10 tracks from the full retail game, this new experience also adds full 3D functionality for TVs that support the tech. The game runs $9.99. Vote with your wallets if you like the idea -- I'm pretty sure Sony is paying attention. One of the trailers from the original Pacific Rift game is included below, to help give you an idea of what to expect.
