Rock Band Network 2.0 To Launch Soon

by Matt Miller on Aug 24, 2010 at 01:07 PM

Harmonix's independent music service will be expanding to support new Rock Band 3 features.

A report from Gamasutra reveals that Harmonix will be updating Rock Band Network to allow creators to utilize the new pro modes inherent to Rock Band 3. Support will be included for keyboards, pro keyboards, pro drums, and three-part vocal harmonies. Notably absent is the ability to author pro guitar tracks, as the creation of those new tracks is extremely time consuming, and there may not  be a significant install base for the pro guitar in the period directly after launch. After Rock Band 3 has been out for some time, Harmonix may reconsider allowing Rock Band Network tracks to include pro guitar parts.

The new version of Rock Band Network should go into beta early next year, with the first tracks utilizing the new tech to appear by the end of the first quarter of 2011.

For those not clued in, Rock Band Network is a downloadable content platform that allows artists to author their own tracks to be purchased and played in the Rock Band games. It seems that as the Rock Band series expands, Rock Band Network will be coming along for the ride. Rock Band 3 will be out on October 26th, at which point players can decide for themselves how much time they want to invest in the new pro modes and additional instruments.
