Motorstorm Apocalypse Is Pretty Cool In 3D

by Bryan Vore on Aug 23, 2010 at 03:00 AM

I sat down, put on some 3D glasses, and put Motorstorm Apocalypse new track set in the suburbs through its paces. The take home message? Driving through a world that’s blowing up all around you plays great in 3D.

The default camera view hovers behind the car so the first effect I noticed was my racing truck’s back end jutting out. As I drove around, boxes and other debris I ran into would roll up the hood and come flying towards the screen. In 2D, I prefer this angle in racing games, but here I wanted to try out the hood cam for a first-person feel.

After switching, I never went back to third-person. It gets pretty insane when rocks and rubble come flying toward you and it’s a welcome hassle when a motorcyclist you’ve run over spends some time on your hood before flying off the side.

Of course, a lot of the excitement of this wild track would be cool in 2D as well. The 3D just enhances it when a runaway tanker is barreling toward you, a building is collapsing just ahead, or the street just cracks in half before your eyes. Fans of the crazy destruction in Split Second should definitely keep an eye on this game.
