Weekend Warrior 08/20/10

by Annette Gonzalez on Aug 20, 2010 at 02:15 PM

We at GI are still going through our backlogs. Check out what we're catching up on this weekend, then share your own weekend plans in the comments section.

Andy: Between bouts with StarCraft II and Lara Croft and The Guardian of Light, I hope to get some time in with Civilization V. I might even play some more Braid which has just been on my mind lately for no apparent reason. In the real world I hope to get in a 30 mile bicycle ride, which will be a new record for this noob biker.

Reiner: I'll be working all weekend. And by working, I mean I'll be sitting behind a camera with an ice-cold beer recording the remaining 81 parts of Game Informer's newest department. Once this daunting assignment is completed, I'm going to head home to catch up on my comic reading, and also play as much as Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light as I can. Meagan's review is spot on so far. I'm loving this game.

Kato: I am really sucked into the Ultimate Team modes for both Madden and NHL 11 (via the recently released demo). There isn’t as much card management in the NHL demo simply because the demo starts you off with better cards than the retail release will, but it’s still fun juggling the different players on the lines to get the best chemistry rating.

In Madden, I finally broke down and spent $10 to get some new cards since I was basically living hand-to-mouth each game trying to just field a team. I was so desperate for players that I was playing HBs as WRs and WRs as CBs. I even had a 300-pound tackle play as a tight end. Guy even caught a few passes for me. I don’t like having to pay real money for cards (and capitulate to EA’s “Project $10”), but I have to admit that the mode itself is great fun.

Tim: Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story. That’s what’s happening this weekend. I’m over 16 hours in, so I think I’m almost there. My love for portable gaming has been reinvigorated since beating Chrono Trigger. I simply took too long beating that game, and my backlog was swelling with great games. I love being able to throw whatever game I’m working on in my pocket and head out the door. I may play some GTA Liberty City Stories this weekend too!

Nick: This weekend will be more Red Dead Redemption. I thought I had beaten the game, but I then found out from Reiner that I haven’t. So I’ll jump back into the dying old west and polish it off. Other than that, I think I’ll hit some skateboarding time and then finish it all off with Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s Map Pack 6. Huzzah!

Jeff M: Last weekend I not only finally beat Red Dead Redemption, but I  got the 100% clearance achievement in it as well. So this weekend I’m taking it easy: I’m going to try to go back and finally finish off the original BioShock. It’s been hanging over my head for a while now, and I want to finally figure out what all this “Would you kindly?” crap is about.

Phil: I finally wrapped up Singularity this week after playing it in too-short doses over the course of several weeks. Now with my regular World of Warcraft raid for Saturday night canceled, I’m going to fill that void in my weekend with single-player RPG craziness. I’ll continue my playthrough of one of two lengthy games: either Dragon Age: Origins or Persona 3 FES. Maybe you guys should decide for me! What should I play? I’ll also probably devote a little time to some of the recent XBLA games I’ve purchased – Puzzle Quest 2, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Monday Night Combat all deserve a little more love.

Dan: Tomorrow will be my bi-monthly tradition of the Drinking Spelling Bee, which hopefully won’t leave me too hungover for Valley Fair on Sunday. I’ve never been there, but I hear it’s the big amusement park around Minneapolis. In terms of games, I plan on playing some Madden, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, and Starcraft II. I think I’m getting near the end of that last one, which means it’ll be time to start getting my ass kicked in multiplayer. Gotta pack on Sunday for my first trip to New York. Can’t wait.

Annette: I plan on having the greatest, most relaxing weekend ever! Simply getting my workout on and spending some time with the men I have neglected the past few weeks: John Marston and Isaac Clarke. Then throwing in some Gears of War for good measure. I'll also catch up on the latest season of Dexter that released on DVD this week. It will be fabulous.

That's it for us. What are you up to this weekend?
